Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Political Bureau and head of PUK Relations Bureau, received Patrick Durrell, French Ambassador to Iraq, in Erbil today. The meeting was also attended by Yann Braem, French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.

Discussions focused on the overall situation in Iraq and the wider region, including rising tensions in Syria. Darbaz Kosrat Rasul expressed concern over recent incidents in Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiya in Aleppo, emphasising the PUK’s support for the peaceful resolution of conflicts. He underlined that Kurds are an indigenous community in Syria and that their rights must be protected without discrimination.

Ambassador Durrell reiterated France’s commitment to the full implementation of the March 10 agreement, stressing the importance of Syrian unity and regional stability.

Both sides agreed that all efforts should be made to reduce tensions, promote stability and peace, and safeguard the rights of all communities in Syria. The meeting also addressed the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi government, highlighting the importance of unity among Kurdish parties.
