Iraqi President Holds Talks with UK Ambassador on Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Iraqi President’s meeting with senior UK delegation.

Iraqi President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Iraq, Irfan Siddiq, along with the Chief Operating Officer at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office, Helena Vega-Lozano, in Baghdad on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, in the presence of Iraqi First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed.

The meeting focused on Iraq–UK relations and ways to further enhance cooperation across various sectors, in addition to an exchange of views on several regional and international matters of mutual concern.

President Rashid underscored the importance of reinforcing the partnership between Iraq and the UK in a manner that serves the shared interests of both friendly countries.

Ambassador Siddiq, in turn, conveyed the UK’s appreciation for the current level of bilateral cooperation, commending the role of political actors in supporting stability and fostering dialogue and mutual understanding.
