Ambassador Dr Mohammed Sabir Assumes New International Role

The Great Wall Society of China has named Ambassador Dr
Mohammed Sabir, Chairman of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation, as its
Honorary President for the 2026–2027 term.
In a formal letter addressed to Dr Sabir, the Society commended his notable
efforts in enhancing cooperation and strengthening relations between China and
the Kurdistan Region.
The message stated: “In recognition of your distinguished efforts and
contributions to developing friendly relations and cooperation between China
and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, you are invited to assume the position of
Honorary President of the Great Wall Society of China for the second term,
2026–2027.”
The letter went on to express the Society’s appreciation for Dr Sabir’s
continued involvement, noting that his guidance and recommendations will play
an important role in shaping future activities and cultural initiatives.
In reply, Ambassador Sabir extended his thanks in a message to the Chinese
Consul General in the Kurdistan Region and the Ambassador of the People’s
Republic of China to Iraq. He expressed his gratitude for the honour and
conveyed his hope that the Society will continue to build bridges between the
Kurdish and Chinese peoples through greater cultural and commercial
cooperation, laying the groundwork for long-term strategic relations.
Reflecting on this connection, Dr Sabir described the Great Wall of China
as “Undoubtedly one of the world’s architectural wonders, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, and an enduring symbol of resilience.”
He further characterised the Great Wall Society of China as: “A vibrant
and inclusive platform for friends of the People’s Republic of China to
exchange ideas and experiences, deepening bilateral understanding and
encouraging further development.”
