Iraqi President Reaffirms Iraq’s Determination to Enhance Regional Stability

Iraqi President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received a delegation from the World Peoples Assembly, led by its Secretary-General Andrey Belyaninov, at Baghdad Palace on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.

The meeting discussed several international initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue among nations and reinforcing the values of peace and cooperation, including the possibility of hosting the International Peoples' Summit in Iraq in partnership with the World Peoples Assembly. President Rashid welcomed the proposal, noting that Iraq’s rich cultural heritage and prominent regional role make it a strong partner and an ideal venue for international events focused on building a future rooted in understanding and development.

The President also reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening regional stability amid rapid global changes, highlighting the importance of establishing frameworks for meaningful dialogue among peoples.

For his part, Mr Belyaninov expressed his gratitude to the President. He conveyed his hope that His Excellency would agree to inaugurate the International Peoples' Summit and chair its honorary organising committee, with the event scheduled to take place in Baghdad next April.

Meeting with the Greek Ambassador

President Rashid also received the Greek Ambassador to Iraq, Georgios Alamanos, at the Baghdad Palace on Tuesday, on the occasion of the ambassador's departure.

During the meeting, President Rashid stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation, and enhancing coordination on issues of mutual interest in a manner that serves both nations and contributes to global peace and security. He wished Ambassador Alamanos every success in his future endeavours and praised his efforts in advancing relations between Iraq and Greece.

Ambassador Alamanos, in turn, reaffirmed Greece’s desire to deepen ties with Iraq and broaden cooperation across various fields.
