Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with Janet Alberta, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Iraq, on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, to discuss the political process in Iraq following the recent parliamentary elections and explore ways to enhance trade relations between the Netherlands and the Kurdistan Region.
During the meeting, Deputy PM Talabani emphasised the need for Iraq to establish an effective, strong, and service-oriented government that satisfies all communities while addressing issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad in accordance with the Constitution.
He underlined the importance of coordination and cooperation among Kurdish parties to strengthen their position in Baghdad, noting that the Region’s overall strength is closely tied to the strength of the Kurdish position at the federal level.
The discussions also focused on boosting trade relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Netherlands. Talabani highlighted the Region’s ongoing development across various sectors and pointed out that there are significant opportunities for Dutch companies and investors, particularly in agriculture and tourism, to contribute to Kurdistan’s growth.
