Double Victory: PUK Outvotes All Other Regional Parties

The special voting for the Iraqi parliamentary elections was held yesterday, Sunday, 9 November 2025. Turnout in the Kurdistan Region was exceptionally high, surpassing 95%. According to unofficial results, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) recorded major successes in the districts where it stood, with its vote share more than doubling. The PUK’s vote in the special poll has, according to PUKMEDIA's information, doubled compared with all other Kurdish parties.
Preliminary figures indicate that the PUK came first in the special vote across the governorates of Sulaymaniyah, Kirkuk, Halabja, the Garmian and Raparin administrations, and the city of Koya. Its support also saw a significant rise in Erbil and Nineveh.
Unofficial results show that the PUK secured over 83,000 votes in the special poll, marking an increase of more than 100% compared to the previous elections. Among those eligible for the special vote were 1,313,980 members of the security and military forces, as well as 26,538 displaced persons. Across Iraq, more than 1.1 million voters participated, representing a turnout of 82.48%.
