Iraqi and Palestinian Presidents meet in Amman.
The President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his accompanying delegation in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
During their meeting, the two presidents discussed bilateral relations between both countries, underscoring the importance of continuing joint efforts to strengthen and expand cooperation across various fields.
President Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s steadfast position on the Palestinian cause and its full support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state. He noted that the suffering endured by the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, constitutes a grave humanitarian tragedy.
His Excellency also emphasised the need for serious international cooperation at all levels to deliver humanitarian relief to the Palestinian people in the aftermath of the ongoing aggression, including the provision of essential medical and food aid. He further stressed that the international community must assume its responsibilities in protecting civilians and preventing any recurrence of such aggression.
For his part, President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his deep appreciation for Iraq’s unwavering support—both at the popular and official levels—towards the Palestinian people and their just cause. He also highlighted the strength of the fraternal ties between the two nations.
