Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received Mohamed Al Hassan, Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Iraq, and his accompanying delegation at Baghdad Palace.
The meeting focused on regional and international developments and their potential future implications. Both sides underscored the important role of the United Nations in promoting dialogue, enhancing coordination among nations, and supporting efforts to reduce tensions and advance peace across the region.
Discussions also covered the political situation in Iraq and ongoing preparations for the upcoming elections. President Rashid and Al Hassan reaffirmed their shared commitment to ensuring that the elections are conducted with integrity, thereby strengthening public confidence in Iraq’s constitutional institutions.
President Rashid reiterated the commitment of Iraq’s constitutional and legal authorities to guaranteeing the success of the elections through comprehensive and well-coordinated preparations. He emphasised that “the support of the international community, particularly in technical assistance and monitoring, is essential to ensuring transparent and fair elections that reflect the true will of the Iraqi people.”
For his part, Al Hassan reiterated the United Nations’ full support for Iraq’s efforts to conduct elections in line with the highest standards of transparency and integrity. He commended the steps taken by the Presidency and relevant national institutions to create the conditions for a credible, inclusive electoral process that strengthens Iraq’s democratic path.
