Iraqi First Lady Launches Initiative to Identify Anfal Victims Through DNA Testing

The Office of the First Lady of Iraq, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, has called on the families of Anfal victims to prepare for the collection of blood samples this week. The samples will be sent to specialised laboratories to help identify the remains of victims discovered in mass graves.
In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the First Lady’s office said: “As part of the ongoing efforts of the First Lady of Iraq concerning the Anfal victims and their families, and following the submission of the files of the accused, Ajaj Ahmed Hardan, to the court, it has been decided to begin taking blood samples from the families of Anfal victims in the city of Chamchamal this week. These samples will be sent to laboratories to identify the remains of Anfal victims found in mass graves.”
The statement further appealed to the families of the Anfal victims to cooperate with the relevant teams and to be present at the time and place to be announced later.
This initiative forms part of the First Lady’s continued commitment to pursuing justice for the victims of the Anfal campaign and supporting their families in the long process of truth and recognition.
