U.S. President Donald Trump has announced via his Truth Social platform the appointment of Mark Savaya as Special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq. The president said Savaya’s “deep understanding of the Iraq-U.S. relationship and his connections in the region will help advance the interests of the American people.”

Trump noted that Savaya played a prominent role in his Michigan campaign, helping deliver a record turnout of Muslim Americans, and offered his congratulations on the new appointment.

In his first remarks following the appointment, Savaya expressed his gratitude to President Trump: “I am deeply humbled, honoured and grateful to President Donald Trump for appointing me as Special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq.” He added: “I am committed to enhancing the partnership between the United States and Iraq under the leadership and guidance of President Trump.”

In response to the announcement, Mark Savaya released a statement expressing gratitude and outlining his goals in the new role.

He wrote: “I am deeply humbled, honoured and grateful to President Donald J. Trump for appointing me as Special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq."

"I am committed to strengthening the U.S.–Iraq partnership under President Trump’s leadership and guidance.”

Savaya, a Detroit-based entrepreneur of Iraqi descent, has built substantial business interests and political connections in Michigan and the broader Middle East region.

The appointment is seen as a strategic move by the U.S. administration to strengthen its diplomatic and economic ties with Iraq, especially at a time of regional complexity and evolving security dynamics.
