Russia has warned that the potential transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine would mark a “serious step of escalation” in the conflict.
The Kremlin said on Monday that such a move would raise questions about whether the United States would also provide Ukraine with targeting data or otherwise be directly involved in operating the missiles.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance confirmed that Washington is considering Kyiv’s request for Tomahawks, though no decision has yet been taken. Speaking to American media, Vance said the matter remains under review.
Tomahawk missiles, with a range of up to 2,500 kilometres, could allow Ukraine to strike targets far beyond the front lines, including in Russian-held territory. Moscow has repeatedly described the potential deployment of such long-range systems as a red line.
