Authorities have arrested Tyler Robinson, 22, in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a campus event at Utah Valley University.

What Happened

Kirk was speaking at a Turning Point USA event on September 10, when a sniper fired a single gunshot from a nearby rooftop and fatally wounded him.

After an intense 24-hour manhunt, including the release of video and surveillance images, Robinson was taken into custody late Thursday. Investigators say a family friend tipped off the authorities, acting on information passed from someone close to the suspect.

Evidence reportedly includes engraved bullet casings, messages on Discord, and matching clothing from the time of the shooting. Prosecutors plan to charge Robinson with capital murder, as well as weapons and obstruction offenses.

Trump’s Statement

President Donald Trump has weighed in forcefully on the arrest and the broader implications:

He told Fox & Friends, “I think with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody.” He credited someone “very close” to the suspect for helping law enforcement.
Trump also expressed hope that the suspect would receive the death penalty.

He praised Kirk, calling him “the finest person” who was “like a son” to him, and “a brilliant guy” who had energized young people.

Aftermath & Bigger Picture

The killing has stirred concerns about political violence in the US. Political leaders and the public have been deeply shaken.

Trump has also blamed what he describes as incitement from the “radical left,” arguing that their rhetoric contributes to such acts.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate motive and whether there were any accomplices. Evidence gathering is ongoing.
