Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, conducted a field visit on Sunday, 7 September 2025, to review tourism projects in Sulaymaniyah’s Sarchinar and inspect progress on the Chaq Chaq and Sarchinar dams, where he met with government officials, investors, and representatives of the implementing companies.
Following his inspection of the Chaq Chaq Dam project, Deputy PM Talabani chaired a meeting with directorates and the implementing company to address the obstacles facing both the Chaq Chaq and Sarchinar dams.
With regard to the Chaq Chaq Dam, he urged the implementing company to accelerate construction to ensure timely completion. He also instructed the relevant authorities to finalise administrative and technical preparations for the Sarchinar Dam, which remains in the design phase, so that work can begin without delay.
The Chaq Chaq Dam is designed to store up to nine million cubic metres of water, while the Sarchinar Dam will hold two million cubic metres. Once completed, the projects are expected not only to strengthen tourism infrastructure but also to positively impact the environment and groundwater resources.
In a separate meeting with investors and local departments in Sulaymaniyah, Deputy PM Talabani reviewed the challenges facing five tourism zones in Sarchinar. He reaffirmed that implementing these projects is a priority for both the government and himself, citing their significant role in boosting economic development, enhancing tourism infrastructure in Kurdistan and Sulaymaniyah, and generating new job opportunities for local residents.
The Deputy Prime Minister directed the relevant departments to complete all administrative and legal requirements without delay. He further announced the formation of a dedicated team within his office to coordinate and closely monitor progress, ensuring that the projects advance swiftly and are completed on schedule.
