Iraqi President: Iraq Committed to Sustainable Energy and Regional Partnerships

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid's meeting with participants of Baghdad International Energy
Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received on Saturday, 6 September 2025, at at Baghdad Palace, a delegation of participants in the Baghdad International Energy Forum.
The delegation included OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Faisal Rashid, Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Rajab Muhammad Abdul-Sadiq, Egypt’s First Undersecretary of Petroleum Ehab Rajai, and Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Ahmet Berat Çonkar. Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, also joined the meeting, underscoring Iraq’s growing influence in shaping global energy policy.
President Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to advancing its energy sector while fostering regional and international partnerships that promote stability, sustainability and shared prosperity. He stressed that Iraq’s strategic location and abundant natural resources uniquely position the country to leverage its wealth for sustainable development and to play a leading role in the global transition toward a green economy.
“After decades of conflict, terrorism and political turmoil, Iraq is now experiencing stability and security. It is critical that we invest in our oil sector at this stage, as it marks the beginning of meaningful, long-term development,” President Rashid said. “At the same time, we must establish a sovereign wealth fund from oil and gas revenues to safeguard resources for both present and future generations.”
The President hailed the Baghdad International Energy Forum as a pivotal step in reaffirming Iraq’s leadership within the energy sector.
“Success in this area will enable us to craft innovative energy policies, deepen collaboration with international companies, and expand investment opportunities in Iraq’s energy market,” he added.
“I look forward to the forum delivering results that strengthen Iraq’s energy sector, protect our national interests, and fulfill the aspirations of our people,” President Rashid said, underscoring the forum’s role in shaping the country’s energy future.
The visiting delegation expressed their appreciation for President Rashid’s leadership and vision, affirming their commitment to strengthening ties with Iraq and exploring new avenues of cooperation and partnership across the energy sector and beyond.
