Over the course of 13 meetings held during the past four days between Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), and participants of the Social Democratic Alliance in the Arab World (SDAAW) Conference in Sulaymaniyah, a total of 21 members of the PUK Political Bureau and Leadership Council took part. All meetings was attended by different PUK officials, something that is highlighted by journalists as a reflection of President Talabani’s inclusive leadership, ensuring opportunities for all comrades in line with the legacy of President Mam Jalal, who championed broad participation in key political and diplomatic forums.
Equal Opportunity for All
Burhan Sheikh Rauf told PUKMEDIA: “It is a significant and valuable phenomenon in political and diplomatic relations that, within four days, the PUK President included most comrades from the Political Bureau and Leadership Council in meetings with numerous foreign delegations. This highlights the importance of a political leader offering equal opportunities for comrades to contribute, and demonstrates that the PUK is a united team led by President Bafel Talabani.”
A Reflection of Healthy Party Life
In a statement to PUKMEDIA, Rebwar Sabir emphasised that holding thirteen meetings with the participation of 21 senior officials illustrates the vitality of party life within the PUK. “Every comrade, regardless of background, can actively contribute to diplomatic tasks. A strong president and character like Bafel Jalal Talabani uses such meetings to showcase the strength of the PUK, since any political force is measured by the extent to which its leader can create opportunities for all the key figures around him,” he said.
All Officials Have a Status
The participation of a wide range of PUK officials in President Bafel’s meetings is viewed as clear evidence that all party officials hold meaningful positions within the PUK and work collectively to manage its affairs. It also underlines the principle of equal opportunity, ensuring leadership responsibilities are not limited to only a few personalities.
The SDAAW Conference, hosted by the PUK in Sulayamniayh, commenced on 27 August 2025 and lasted four days. It addressed key issues such as peace, security, and the major political challenges facing the Arab world. The gathering brought together political leaders, intellectuals, and public figures from across the Arab world, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.
PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani was elected as President of the SDAAW at the event. In his speech, he declared: “The spirit of Mam Jalal and his comrades is the same spirit that guides us today. It is what we must look to for direction.”
He also said: “This is the time for action, because the PUK is not simply a political party — it is a promise of service, born of sacrifice, rooted in the ideals of freedom and justice, and today renewed with a spirit of reform and unity.”
