Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Relations Bureau.
Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Relations Bureau and Board Member of the Progressive Alliance, praised the success of the Social Democratic Alliance in the Arab World (SDAAW) Conference, hosted by the PUK in Sulaymaniyah in partnership with the Progressive Alliance and SDAAW.
In a statement posted on his X account, Rasul said: "I am proud of the success of the Social Democratic Alliance in the Arab World Conference, held in Sulaymaniyah in partnership with the Progressive Alliance. The event brought together leaders, delegations, and representatives of social democratic parties to discuss national and regional challenges, strengthen solidarity, and support one another in advancing democracy and social justice."
Rasul highlighted: "Social democracy is a legacy of Mam Jalal Talabani, who rooted these principles within the PUK to unite Kurds and Arabs alike."
Furthermore, he said: "Today, under President Bafel Jalal Talabani, the PUK carries this legacy forward as an active member of two alliances: the Progressive Alliance, where he serves on the Presidium for the Middle East, and the Social Democratic Alliance in the Arab World, where he was appointed President during this conference."
Expressing his gratitude to all participating parties and representatives, Rasul said: "I extend my gratitude to all the parties and representatives who joined us in Sulaymaniyah. Together, we continue to build stronger cooperation across MENA and beyond."
The SDAAW Conference, hosted by the PUK in Sulayamniayh, commenced on 27 August 2025 and lasted four days. It addressed key issues such as peace, security, and the major political challenges facing the Arab world. The gathering brought together political leaders, intellectuals, and public figures from across the Arab world, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.
PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani was elected as President of the SDAAW at the event. In his speech, he declared: “The spirit of Mam Jalal and his comrades is the same spirit that guides us today. It is what we must look to for direction.”
He also said: “This is the time for action, because the PUK is not simply a political party — it is a promise of service, born of sacrifice, rooted in the ideals of freedom and justice, and today renewed with a spirit of reform and unity.”
