Firyal Abdullah, a member of the PUK Leadership Council.
A large number of prominent leaders and figures from across the Arab world have been in Sulaymaniyah for four days to participate in the Social Democratic Alliance in the Arab World (SDAAW) Conference. A member of the PUK Leadership Council, who has also been appointed President of the Women’s Union (Shihana) within the SDAAW, emphasised that any position granted to the PUK within the alliance reflects confidence in the party’s role.
Firyal Abdullah, a member of the PUK Leadership Council and President of the SDAAW's Women’s Union (Shihana), told PUKMEDIA: “Any position given to the PUK within the SDAAW is based on confidence in the PUK’s role in such alliances, particularly within the SDAAW. The PUK presided over the SDAAW Women’s Committee for a year, and I myself was in charge of it. Now the Committee has been transformed into a Union at the request of its members.”
She added: “Of course, we have our own agenda and programmes, which we submitted to the Supreme Committee of SDAAW Party Leaders, and they agreed to implement them. Since the conference is very crowded, with intensive panels and numerous guests, we hope to participate in several meetings with political leaders.”
She further emphasised: “The importance of this conference extends beyond its symbolic value. It provides an opportunity to draw international attention to women’s issues here and to strengthen their role within state institutions, political parties, organisations, and government bodies.”
Abdullah concluded: “I congratulate ourselves and all the women involved. We are grateful for the trust placed in us, and for the support of everyone working towards more effective engagement. This is especially important at a time when some parties seek to tarnish Sulaymaniyah’s reputation. With the presence of foreign ministers and leaders of major Arab parties, our congress has been a great success.”
