PUK President to New U.S. Consul General: We Are Committed to Deepening Ties

PUK President Receives U.S. Diplomats.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received the newly appointed United States Consul General, Gwendolyn Green, and the outgoing Consul General, Steven Bitner, at Dabashan in Sulaymaniyah.
The meeting, attended by Political Bureau members Dr Hawre Sheikh Daro and Talar Latif, saw President Bafel congratulate Ms Green and reaffirm the PUK’s support for her work and success. He also expressed his gratitude to Mr Bitner, wishing him well in his future role.
Political, economic, and security matters were discussed, with both sides exchanging views. President Bafel reiterated the PUK’s commitment to strengthening relations and advancing them in a manner that safeguards the highest interests.
Ms Green thanked President Bafel for his efforts in narrowing differences and helping to resolve outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. The meeting also addressed the forthcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections.
