Qubad Talabani Reiterates Need for Strong Government Amid Ongoing Challenges

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, welcomed Mohammed al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, in Erbil.
During their meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments concerning efforts to form a new government in the Kurdistan Region, expressing mutual hope that the process would be accelerated.
In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the internal situation within the Kurdistan Region, as well as recent attacks targeting its infrastructure. He underscored the importance of swiftly establishing a strong, unified government capable of fulfilling the aspirations of its citizens and cooperating effectively with the federal government and relevant bodies to safeguard the Region’s stability.
With regard to the agreement between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government on public sector salaries and the resumption of oil exports, Talabani emphasised the necessity for both sides to honour and implement the terms of the agreement.
Qubad Talabani: Repeated Drone Attacks Jeopardise Iraq's Stability
Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with the United States Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, Steven Bitner, to discuss relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, along with a number of other key issues.
During the meeting, held on Tuesday in Erbil, both parties agreed on the importance of resolving disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad in line with the Iraqi Constitution and through ongoing dialogue and negotiations. Deputy Prime Minister Talabani underlined the need for both sides to uphold the recent agreement aimed at addressing the issue of salaries for Kurdistan Region employees.
The two sides also discussed the recent drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region. Talabani highlighted the damage these strikes have caused to the Kurdistan Region’s energy infrastructure and warned that their continuation poses a serious threat to Iraq’s overall stability. He expressed hope that the federal government would identify and hold accountable those responsible for the attacks.
