Kurdistan VP’s meeting with new Italian Commander.

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, the new military commander of the Italian Special Forces, Colonel Pietro Saleri, alongside Colonel Gianluca Fruci, current commander of the Italian Special Forces in the Kurdistan Region.

Vice President Sheikh Jaafar congratulated Colonel Saleri on his recent appointment and extended his best wishes for his new mission in the Region.

He also commended the service of Colonel Fruci, acknowledging his significant contributions to enhancing the capabilities of the Peshmerga forces. He praised the broader role of Italian forces operating under the framework of the Global Coalition against the Islamic State (ISIS), highlighting their continued support and cooperation.

For his part, Colonel Saleri expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for his new assignment in the Kurdistan Region. He underscored the importance of maintaining and strengthening relations between the Italian forces, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.
