The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed on Monday, 23 June 2025, its solidarity with the State of Qatar and underscored the importance of safeguarding Qatari sovereignty and security, reiterating Iraq’s long-standing position that regional crises can only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

In an official statement, the Ministry declared: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with deep concern the dangerous and escalating developments in the region, particularly the recent attack targeting the State of Qatar. While reaffirming our solidarity with our sisterly nation and the imperative of protecting its sovereignty and security, Iraq recalls that it has long warned of such an eventuality, given the serious risks posed to the security and stability of the wider region."

The statement continued: "This escalation signals a further rise in tensions and marks a dangerous and unprecedented turning point in the ongoing conflict. Iraq has consistently cautioned against the involvement of additional actors, which could widen the scope of confrontation."

The Ministry reiterated Iraq’s principled stance that regional conflicts must be resolved through dialogue, diplomatic engagement, and the avoidance of military options, which only serve to deepen instability and human suffering.

Concluding the statement, the Ministry once again called for restraint, collective efforts to de-escalate, and the adoption of reason and shared interests in order to safeguard the security and stability of the peoples of the region.

Iran’s military announced on Monday, 23 June 2025, that it had launched a "devastating and powerful" missile strike on the Al Udeid U.S. airbase in Qatar, following earlier threats to retaliate against American airstrikes. Residents of the Qatari capital, Doha, reported hearing explosions shortly after the attack.
