Dr. Yousif Goran, Head of the General Studies Centre of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Mr. Albrecht von Wittke, the Consul General of Germany in the Kurdistan Region, and his accompanying delegation on Monday, 19 May 2025.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in the region and emphasised the importance of establishing a service-oriented government in the Kurdistan Region. Dr. Goran underscored the PUK’s stance on the prompt formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to better serve the people of Kurdistan.
In another part of the meeting, the peace process and efforts toward a resolution in Türkiye were discussed, highlighting the importance of avoiding conflict and destruction. Dr. Goran noted that, in the early 1990s, the PUK—under the leadership of the late President Mam Jalal—and the then Turkish President Turgut Özal supported peace and the rights of the Kurdish people in Türkiye. He affirmed that this support continues today, expressing hope that the process will prove beneficial for both sides.
For his part, the German CG expressed his appreciation for the initial steps taken in the peace process in Türkiye and voiced his hope for its successful outcome. He also emphasised the importance of forming the Kurdistan Regional Government to serve the citizens and to ensure the success of the democratic process.
