Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended his congratulations to Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid on the occasion of Iraq hosting the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad.
The 34th Arab Summit took place on Saturday, 17 May 2025, at the Government Palace in Baghdad, with the participation of Arab leaders and heads of state, alongside the Secretaries-General of the United Nations, the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. The summit also welcomed numerous dignitaries from Arab countries, the European Union, and various international organisations.
In his message, Chinese President Xi highlighted the Arab League’s longstanding commitment—since its establishment over 80 years ago—to promoting unity across the Arab world and reinforcing its internal strength. He noted that the League has played an instrumental role in articulating the aspirations of Arab nations and advancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East.
President Xi observed that the world is currently experiencing rapid and unprecedented transformations, while the situation in the Middle East remains complex and dynamic. He praised Arab countries for upholding their independence and sovereignty, striving for development and renewal, and defending justice and fairness—actions which, he said, enhance the stature and influence of Global South nations.
He also remarked on the significant progress in Sino-Arab relations in recent years, describing them as a model of cooperation and solidarity among developing nations. President Xi recalled the agreement reached with Arab leaders during the first China–Arab States Summit in December 2022 to build a China–Arab community with a shared future in the new era. He further noted that the upcoming second summit, set to take place in China in 2026, will represent another historic milestone in bilateral relations.
President Xi reaffirmed that China and Arab countries have always approached their relationship with strategic vision and long-term commitment. He reiterated China’s enduring role as a reliable partner and steadfast supporter of the Arab world’s just causes.
In conclusion, the Chinese president expressed China’s readiness to deepen mutual political trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and jointly pursue national modernisation—efforts aimed at elevating the China–Arab partnership and building a shared future.
