Rafaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), convened a meeting on Sunday, 11 May 2025, with the boards and centres of democratic organisations in the Kurdistan Region to discuss the party’s organisational restructuring and preparations for the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections.

According to a statement by the PUK VP's media office, the meeting, held at the PUK Political Bureau headquarters in Sulaymaniyah, was attended by senior figures including Political Bureau member Burhan Saeed Sofi, and Leadership Council members Abbas Fatah, Faryal Abdullah, and Stran Abdullah.

The statement said that a key focus of the discussion was the planned restructuring of the PUK’s organisational framework, particularly through the establishment of a new entity titled the Organisational Affairs Bureau, which will oversee the work of democratic organisations.

VP emphasised the importance of this reorganisation, stating: “The PUK headquarters will not merely serve as the centre for organisational affairs, but will stand as the hub for all areas of struggle—a bright outer look of the PUK’s interaction with and resistance alongside the people.”

With the Iraqi elections on the horizon, VP Abdullah stressed that it is the responsibility of all party bodies and comrades to unite their efforts to implement the PUK’s electoral strategy and ensure the party’s success at the polls.

Members of the democratic organisations in attendance shared their perspectives on the proposed reforms, expressing support for the measures aimed at strengthening the party's organisational structure. They also underscored the need for coordinated mobilisation in the next stage of the PUK’s mass political struggle, particularly in the context of the national elections.
