Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Cui Wei, the Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, at Baghdad Palace to discuss the deepening of the strategic partnership between Iraq and China, the Iraqi Presidency reported on Monday, 5 May 2025.

According to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency, talks between the two sides centred on broadening cooperation in key areas such as economic development, security, and cultural exchange. President Rashid highlighted the significance of joint initiatives in tackling global challenges and promoting regional stability, and expressed his gratitude for China’s ongoing support for Iraq’s reconstruction and development.

The statement noted that Ambassador Cui reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, emphasising the mutual benefits of closer collaboration and acknowledging Iraq’s pivotal role in the region.

The statement added that the meeting reflects the growing momentum in Iraq–China relations, with both countries reaffirming their dedication to a long-term strategic alliance.
