The Sulaymaniyah General Directorate of Health has announced that Shar Hospital has received an international award for the second time from the World Stroke Organisation. On this occasion, the award was granted to the hospital’s Neurology and Vascular Surgery Department in recognition of its outstanding work in stroke treatment.

In a statement obtained by PUKMEDIA, the Directorate confirmed that the World Stroke Organisation recognised the Neurology and Vascular Surgery Department at Shar Hospital as the leading and foremost stroke treatment centre in Iraq, commending its high level of efficiency in managing such cases.

Dr Zana Abdul Rahman, Head of the Neurology and Vascular Surgery Department, stated, “This year’s award, conferred by the World Stroke Organisation, is a Platinum Award—an even higher distinction than the Gold Award we received last year.”

He explained, “This honour is awarded to treatment centres that meet the standards upheld by developed nations in delivering care to stroke patients, highlighting the advanced position Shar Hospital now holds in this field.”

It is worth noting that the hospital’s initial award was received in November of the previous year during a stroke conference held in Baghdad. That award, the Gold Award, was also presented to the Stroke Treatment Centre at Shar Hospital in Sulaymaniyah.
