The Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) convened on Sunday, 27 April 2025, under the chairmanship of PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani to discuss key internal reforms.
The meeting, held at the Political Bureau headquarters in Sulaymaniyah, saw council members express strong support for Comrade Ziyad Jabbar, a fellow member of the Leadership Council. Members praised Jabbar for his composure and high sense of responsibility in light of a recent incident. It was also noted that the relevant security authorities had taken appropriate legal and disciplinary measures against those responsible for the assault on Comrade Jabbar’s security guards.
During the session, the Leadership Council also conveyed its appreciation to President Bafel for his initiative to establish a committee tasked with reorganising and reforming the security forces within the party’s structures and affiliated civilian institutions. Comrade Ziyad Jabbar has been appointed to chair this committee.
In addition to addressing security sector reforms, the Council reached key decisions regarding broader internal restructuring efforts aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational framework.
