PUK President: New Kurdistan Government Must Serve All Without Discrimination

PUK President's meeting with Italian Ambassador.
President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani, welcomed Niccolò Fontana, the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, at the PUK’s Political Bureau headquarters in Sulaymaniyah.
During their discussions, they exchanged perspectives on the latest political developments in the region and stressed the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue among all parties in order to overcome ongoing challenges.
Concerning the formation of the new government in the Kurdistan Region, President Bafel stated, “The PUK aims for the new government to serve all areas equally, free from discrimination and political disputes, with the ultimate goal of ensuring a dignified life for the people.”
The meeting also touched on the Iraqi parliamentary elections, with the PUK President expressing his hope that the international community would support the electoral process, helping to reinforce state institutions and better serve the public.
PUK President & Saudi Ambassador Discuss Joint Efforts for Regional Stability
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Mr Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Iraq, at Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
The meeting focused on the historical ties between the late President Mam Jalal and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with both sides highlighting the importance of further strengthening these relations.
President Bafel affirmed the PUK’s commitment to fostering greater investment opportunities for Saudi Arabia in the Kurdistan Region, stating, “We are fully prepared to offer every facility to Saudi companies and investors to help revitalise the Region’s economy and create job opportunities.”
Both sides also discussed the political climate in the Middle East, agreeing on the importance of unified efforts to steer the area away from further tensions.
PUK President Urges for Continued Dutch Support and Stronger Bilateral Ties
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Janet Alberda, the Dutch Ambassador to Iraq, in Dabashan.
During the meeting, President Bafel and Ambassador Alberda agreed on the importance of strengthening relations and cooperation across various sectors, contributing to the development of the Kurdistan Region.
President Bafel expressed his appreciation for the Netherlands’ military support to both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, stating, “The threat posed by ISIS terrorists still exists, and I hope your support for the Peshmerga forces will continue.”
Their discussions also addressed the political situation in Iraq and the wider region, the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government, and the Iraqi parliamentary elections.
PUK President Affirms Continued Efforts to Maintain Stability in Iraq
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Dr. Mohammed Hassan, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, during a meeting held at Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
PUK President emphasised the importance of coordination and collective action among all political forces and parties in order to intensify efforts aimed at overcoming current challenges.
The two sides also discussed developments in the Middle East. President Bafel remarked, “We are working diligently to preserve stability in our country and to shield it from political conflicts. In this regard, we have encouraged all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and to seek peaceful solutions to disputes.”
Regarding the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, the PUK President stated, “The PUK fully supports the holding of transparent and fair elections. I sincerely hope we can set a high democratic example.”
PUK President Meets Russian CG in Sulaymaniyah
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), held a meeting in Sulaymaniyah with Mr Maxim Rubin, the Russian Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
Also present at the meeting was Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the PUK’s Relations Bureau. The two sides exchanged views on the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider Middle East.
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, both parties agreed on the importance of continued dialogue among all involved in order to reduce tensions.
Speaking about the ongoing efforts to form a new government in the Kurdistan Region, President Bafel stated: "The PUK and the KDP have agreed on the principles of governance, and the negotiating delegations from both sides are working to form the government as soon as possible."
On the matter of Erbil–Baghdad relations, the PUK President added: "Dialogue is continuing to resolve existing challenges, and we are working to ensure that citizens' lives and livelihoods are not caught up in political disputes."
