First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed Welcomes Delegation from Indigenous Ministries in Sulaymaniyah

First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed welcomed Dee A. Cook, Executive Director of the non-profit organisation Indigenous Ministries, along with her accompanying delegation, in Sulaymaniyah.

The meeting, which was also attended by Sara Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, Chairwoman of the Kurdistan Save the Children Organisation (KSC), focused on the humanitarian work carried out by non-governmental organisations, particularly those supporting women and children. Discussions explored the challenges these organisations face in fulfilling their missions, especially in the context of rising global needs and financial constraints.

The First Lady emphasised the vital role of international organisations in promoting societal advancement by addressing the essential needs of vulnerable populations and fostering a brighter future through community engagement. Topics also included women’s empowerment, grassroots initiatives, and opportunities for enhanced collaboration.

She urged governments and civil society institutions to prioritise childcare and education—particularly in communities affected by local or regional instability—as central elements of their programmes. The First Lady stressed that any meaningful progress on the global stage must begin with safeguarding children’s dignity and ensuring their right to education and a healthy, stable life.

Ms Cook expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to meet the First Lady, praising her accomplishments as a writer, political leader, and advocate for children’s rights, as well as her continued support for women throughout Iraq.

Ms Sara also outlined the key areas in which KSC operates, including providing support to children, displaced families, and residents of refugee camps. She reaffirmed that protecting children and preserving their dignity is a fundamental human right—equal in value to the right to life—and is essential to establishing security, stability, and long-term national development.
