Ninth Preparatory Conference for 2nd PUK Forum Kicks off in Raparin

The 9th Preparatory Conference for 2nd PUK Forum begins in Raparin.

The ninth preparatory conference for the second Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Forum took place today, Wednesday, 9 April 2025, with the participation of several Political Bureau members, leaders, and activists from the Raparin Administration across various sectors. The event aimed to initiate discussions and dialogue on key issues and the party's policies.

PUK's Path to Renewal in Its Work and Struggle

At the outset of the conference, Hiwa Qarani, Head of the Raparin Administration, delivered a speech in which he stated, "During Mam Jalal's presidency, we achieved significant milestones for both Iraq and our Region. Today, the PUK, under the leadership of President Bafel Jalal Talabani, is moving towards a process of renewal in its efforts and struggles."

He continued, "The PUK and the Raparin Administration share an inseparable bond. We hope that by realigning governance and adhering to the PUK’s programme, we can overcome the challenges we face."

Qarani further said, "As the PUK approaches its golden jubilee, marking fifty years since its founding, Kurdistan, Iraq, the surrounding region, and the world are undergoing momentous transformations. This requires us to be more prepared for any possible challenges. We hope this meeting will address the needs of this phase, serving as a platform for self-reflection, reform, reorganisation, and reconstruction across all facets, institutions, and bodies of the PUK. In doing so, we can lead our people towards victory and fulfil the goals and aspirations of our martyrs."

The PUK Forum… Towards Intellectual Unity

Dr. Yousif Goran, a member of the PUK Leadership Council and Head of the Supreme Committee for the second PUK Forum, said: "The vision of this forum reflects a new era in the political and organisational work of the PUK. It has evolved into an effective party mechanism at the Kurdistan Region and Iraq level. While the first forum focused on party identity and internal structure, the second forum embraces broader and more significant roles."

He continued, "This second forum will represent a serious and genuine step towards intellectual unity among our cadres, particularly on critical issues. We must also emphasise the PUK’s role as a major national force, coordinating efforts to serve the supreme interests of Kurdistan, particularly in this time of rapid developments in our region. The PUK and the people of Kurdistan are facing the impacts of these changes, and it is vital we all have a clear and unified vision of the concerns and interests of our people."

Dr. Goran concluded, "The Raparin Administration achieved a great victory for the PUK in the sixth parliamentary elections, under the leadership of Qubad Talabani, and this is something we take great pride in. The goal of this second forum is to restore our party to its leadership position as the number one party in the Kurdistan Region."

The first PUK Forum began on 12 March 2022, under Qubad Talabani's supervision, and concluded on 31 May 2022. This Forum established the PUK's policy across various fields and became a foundational pillar of the PUK's overall strategy.
