Germany Reaffirms Military Support for Peshmerga Forces

Kurdistan Region Vice President Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa praised Germany's role in the international coalition forces against the Islamic State (ISIS) in the region and stressed the importance of continuous assistance to the Peshmerga.

The Kurdistan Region VP received Col. Cooper, who succeeded Col. Thomas Ritter as the new military commander of the German forces within the International Coalition, on Sunday, 16 March 2025. VP Mustafa congratulated Colonel Cooper on his appointment as the new military commander of the German forces.

In addition to thanking the relevant parties in the Kurdistan Region for their cooperation and support, the two German military commanders reaffirmed German military forces' support within the International Coalition against ISIS and emphasised their commitment to continue supporting and collaborating with the Peshmerga in the fight against terrorism and the threat posed by ISIS.
