Alongside the International Coalition, the Kurdistan Counter Terrorism Group (CTG) carried out a security operation to consolidate peace in areas that terrorist remnants used as bases and hiding places, the CTG reported on Saturday, 9 March 2025.

The CTG said in a statement, obtained by PUKMEDIA, that the General Directorate of CTG and the international coalition carried out an operation to maintain peace in areas that terrorist remnants used as bases and hideouts as part of their ongoing efforts to drive them out.

"The CTG forces and their local and international allies will be the open eyes that will search and destroy any terrorist bases, hideouts and headquarters in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region," the statement said.

The Islamic State (ISIS) seized large swathes of Iraqi land in 2014, declaring a "caliphate" and killing thousands of people there before Baghdad declared victory in 2017. However, remnants of the terrorists are still active in the country, especially in the regions disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.

The terrorists ambush, kidnap, and extort both civilians and members of the security forces in the disputed areas, which stretch across several provinces, including Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala, and Saladin.

Security forces conduct frequent operations aimed at eliminating the remnants of the terrorists.
