The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) issued a statement on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The following is the text of the statement:
On 8th March, the International Day of the Struggle of Women’s Movements, we extend our warmest congratulations to all women in Kurdistan and around the world.
The women’s rights and equality movement is a crucial and integral part of the democratic and social struggles of nations, and any progress in this movement strengthens the global struggle.
The PUK, as it has consistently done, reaffirms its support for women’s struggles. Following the example of President Mam Jalal, it has created spaces for women to engage in the party and government sectors, and our efforts continue to expand their participation in decision-making bodies and political work.
On this occasion, we offer special congratulations to the female comrades within the PUK, who are key partners in the broader struggle of their party. We firmly believe that the women of the PUK are among the most dedicated and active figures in Kurdistan’s political process.
On this occasion, we pay tribute to the souls of those women who were symbols of struggle, defending their communities in the political and organisational struggle.
