At the suggestion and request of a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) MP, the Japanese Embassy will allocate over one billion dinars for the Sulaymaniyah Museum.

Dr. Briar Rashid, a member of the PUK faction in the Iraqi parliament, told PUKMEDIA: “Following our previous efforts to address the needs and shortcomings of certain institutions in Sulaymaniyah through international organisations and centres, we received a commitment from the Japanese ambassador to undertake a project aimed at meeting the requirements of the Sulaymaniyah Museum, with funding exceeding one billion dinars.”

Dr. Rashid stated, “On Tuesday, 4 March 2025, we visited the Japanese Embassy in Baghdad for the same purpose and met with Mr. YOKOTA Kenji, Chargé d’Affaires of the Japanese Embassy to Iraq, and Hideki Okada, Political Secretary, to discuss the project’s implementation. Following the signing of an agreement between the Embassy and the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project is set to commence this month at the Sulaymaniyah Museum with the support of JICA.”

He stated, “The project will play a significant role in preserving cultural heritage, enriching the Sulaymaniyah Museum with historical artefacts, and promoting the tourism sector in the city and the Kurdistan Region. We expressed our gratitude to the Japanese government and its embassy for their support.”
