On Wednesday, 26 February 2025, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Akira Endo, the new Japanese Ambassador to Iraq, and discussed ways to deepen relations between Japan and the Kurdistan Region, as well as other subjects of mutual concern.

During the meeting, which was attended by Arakawa Mikihiro, Consul General of Japan in the Kurdistan Region, Deputy PM Talabani congratulated the new Japanese Ambassador and hoped that during his mission in Iraq, relations between the Kurdistan Region and Japan will see further progress. On the other hand, he said goodbye to the Consul General of Japan on the occasion of the end of his mission in the Kurdistan Region, and wished him success in his future mission.

The Deputy PM appreciated the Japanese government for all of its aid to the Kurdistan Region, particularly the implementation of the Halabja water project, support for the Sulaymaniyah Museum, and the repatriation of some historical artifacts to the Museum.

Both sides emphasised the importance of developing connections between the Kurdistan Region and Japan in a variety of spheres. In this context, Qubad Talabani urged the Japanese government to aid the Kurdistan Region in improving young people's technological and entrepreneurial abilities.
