Saadi Ahmed Pire, the Spokesperson and Representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Rafayel Movsesyan, the Acting Chief of Mission of the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia, at the PUK’s Politburo building in Erbil. The meeting was attended by Luqman Wardi, a member of the Leadership Council.

At the start of the meeting, Saadi Ahmed Pire congratulated his guest on assuming his new role and expressed his hopes that Mr. Movsesyan would play a key role in strengthening political, commercial, economic, and cultural ties between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia. Pire also highlighted the deep-rooted historical and cultural connections between the Kurdish and Armenian peoples, describing them as neighbouring nations of Aryan origin within the region.

The discussion then turned to the latest political, economic, and military developments, both in the wider region and specifically in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The two sides also addressed the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government and the ongoing negotiations between the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). Pire emphasised the PUK’s commitment to establishing a strong and effective government that serves the people and advances the Kurdistan Region’s development across various sectors.

In response, Mr. Movsesyan provided an overview of the situation in Armenia and recent political and economic developments in his country. He also highlighted the significant progress in relations between Armenia and the Kurdistan Region in recent years across multiple fields. Additionally, he noted that the annual trade volume between Iraq and Armenia exceeds $200 million, with the Kurdistan Region playing a crucial role in this exchange. He reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to further strengthening these relations and expanding cooperation across diverse sectors.
