He also reaffirmed the commitment of the PUK and the Kurdish people to deepening historical ties and expanding cooperation with France across various fields, particularly in economic and diplomatic matters. He expressed his gratitude for France’s steadfast support, recalling the contributions of Mrs Danielle Mitterrand, who stood by the Kurdish cause during challenging periods of struggle.
President Bafel said, “We will not forget the friends who supported us and remained by our side. We value these relationships and are keen to further develop them.”
Additionally, the meeting included an exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East, particularly in Syria and the Kurdish issue in Western Kurdistan. President Bafel stressed the necessity of safeguarding the rights of all nationalities and communities within the framework of a new Syria.
President Bafel said: “The sacrifices and struggles of the Kurdish people in Western Kurdistan must be respected, and they must play an active role in rebuilding their country. Any attempt to marginalise them or deviate from this national goal will inevitably impact the region’s stability.”

During their meeting, they discussed the security situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region, highlighting the importance of stability and the development of peace in the Middle East. They emphasised the necessity of maintaining constructive dialogue among all parties to address security challenges effectively.
