Iraqi President: Tourism Fosters Understanding & Cooperation Between Cultures

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to initiatives that promote cultural and economic ties. He also stated that tourism fosters understanding and cooperation between culture at his meeting with Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities.
Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, President of the Arab Tourism Organization Dr. Bandar bin Fahd Al-Fuhaid and Secretary-General of the Transport and Tourism Department at the Arab League Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr, the Iraqi Presidency reported on Sunday, 2 February 2025.
The Iraqi Presidency said in a statement that Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities conveyed greetings and congratulations from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to President Rashid on Baghdad’s selection as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2025.
According to the statement, President Rashid expressed his gratitude and asked the minister to relay his greetings and best wishes for continued progress and prosperity to President Al-Sisi and the Egyptian people.
The statement added that their discussion focused on expanding cooperation to ensure that Baghdad fully embraces its role as the Arab Tourism Capital, including enhancing tourism as both an economic and cultural sector, strengthening Iraq’s position in the regional and global tourism industry.
“Tourism is more than just an economic sector; it fosters understanding and cooperation between peoples and cultures,” President Rashid stated, reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to initiatives that promote cultural and economic ties.
The visiting delegation also emphasised that Baghdad’s designation as the Arab Tourism Capital marks the beginning of broader tourism development in Iraq and the region. They highlighted Baghdad’s rich cultural heritage and its status as a premier tourist destination in the Arab world and beyond.
The delegation also expressed their appreciation for their visit to Iraq and their time in Baghdad, extending their hopes for continued security and stability for the Iraqi people.
