Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed meets Mohammed al-Hassan.

Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, First Lady of Iraq, recently held a productive meeting with Mohamed al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI. The discussions centred around Iraq’s stability and development, alongside potential opportunities for collaboration in preserving the country’s rich heritage.

During the meeting, the First Lady extended an invitation to Mr. Hassan to visit Sulaymaniyah, a city renowned for its ancient sites, historical buildings, and cultural landmarks. Mr. Hassan graciously accepted, expressing a strong interest in learning more about the city’s cultural treasures.

The two also explored ongoing archaeological projects and discussed ways in which UN agencies could support initiatives focused on the preservation and rehabilitation of heritage sites. Additionally, they considered establishing funds to support cultural organisations dedicated to safeguarding Iraq’s heritage.
