Qubad Talabani meets newly appointed Indian Ambassador to Iraq.

On Tuesday 28th January 2025, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Sumin Bakji, the newly appointed Indian Ambassador to Iraq, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations and address several pressing regional issues.

At the beginning of the meeting, Qubad Talabani extended his congratulations to Ambassador Bakji on his new role, expressing his hope for his success and further development of relations between the Kurdistan Region and India during his tenure.

The Deputy PM praised India's support to the Kurdistan Region across various sectors, particularly in healthcare, vocational training, and human capacity development, and expressed his desire for this assistance to continue in the future.

The discussion also touched on a project aimed at enhancing youth capabilities in technology and job creation. Qubad Talabani highlighted the ongoing preparations for the Second Sulaymaniyah International Forum for Creativity and Job Creation, stating: "Our goal is for Sulaymaniyah to become a key hub for technological development in Iraq and the wider region." 

He added: "There are many creative and capable young people in Kurdistan, whose potential can be nurtured through this project, enabling them to contribute to the future development of Kurdistan." 

Furthermore, the Deputy PM called on India to support the Kurdistan Region in this area, drawing attention to India’s successful experience in technological development.
