The governor of Sulaymaniyah denied having any illegal refineries in the province, stating that all existing refineries in Sulaymaniyah are legal and comply with environmental standards.
Sulaymaniyah Governor Dr. Haval Abubaker told a press conference on Saturday: "We have stated multiple times in recent years that no illegal refineries exist in Sulaymaniyah based on investigations undertaken by the Directorate of Oil and Minerals of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)."
According to Abubaker, the existing fields are all legal sites where the three types of petrol, which are marketed at the petrol stations, are made.
"The petrol blending facilities follow the criteria of the Ministry of Natural Resources' monitoring committee and are permitted to operate, while illegal refineries are prohibited in our region," he stated.
"What is produced, particularly in Arbat, adheres to environmental standards, and we will not allow the environment of our province to be polluted," he added.
