Green spaces.
Green spaces in Sulaymaniyah province are nearing international standards, with the Sulaymaniyah Parks Directorate announcing that the province ranks first in Iraq for green space coverage.
Bahroz Salar, Director of the Parks Department in Sulaymaniyah, told PUKMEDIA: "According to statistics and international standards, Sulaymaniyah is ranked first in Iraq for its green spaces."
He continued, "In the city centre of Sulaymaniyah, green areas account for over 19%, and international standards suggest that the ideal percentage is 20%. Our goal is to exceed this global standard in the coming year."
He added: "Next year, we have a programme in place to further expand green spaces across the province, including the creation of new parks in the city centre. We are currently in the process of constructing six new parks within Sulaymaniyah’s neighbourhoods, which will significantly increase the province's green space."
According to a PUKMEDIA follow-up, the Parks Directorate in Sulaymaniyah is continuously monitoring, watering, and maintaining all parks across the province, while also establishing new parks and gardens each month.
