The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reaffirms its dedication to honouring the commitments made during the election campaign to the people of Kurdistan. The PUK aims for the new government in the Kurdistan Region to serve all areas impartially, without discrimination, and to continue its efforts in Baghdad to resolve the issue of salaries for Kurdistan Region employees.
We Aim for a Service-Oriented Government
Concerning these matters and other key issues, Latif Nerweyi, the Head of the PUK's Media Board, stated during an interview with PUKMEDIA: "The PUK wishes for the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to be one that provides services to all areas without discrimination. It is also crucial for the PUK to be a genuine partner in the government, unlike in the past."
Nerweyi continued: "The future approach to governance is of great importance to the PUK, and we are committed to fulfilling all promises made to the public during the election campaign, as they all serve the interests of the citizens. We do not believe any party will oppose the implementation of these promises, and we are focused on ensuring security and economic stability in the Region."
Our Vision of Partnership is Different from the KDP's
He further explained: "What matters most to the PUK is the nature of governance. Our vision of partnership in government differs from that of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), as we stress the importance of solidifying the principle of true partnership in order to build a unified government."
Regarding the PUK's discussions with other parties over the formation of the new KRG, Nerweyi said: "The PUK has tasked a specialised team, with experience at both the party and government levels, with the negotiations. Since the election results have created a situation where no single party can form the government alone, this complicates the process. Still, the PUK is keen for the negotiations to lead to positive outcomes. Therefore, we are not rushing the formation of the government, but we aim to expedite serving the citizens and addressing their concerns.
The PUK Aims to Solve the Salary Issue
Regarding the PUK's efforts to improve the living conditions of citizens and address the salary issue with the federal government, the Head of the Media Board stated: "The PUK has not ceased its efforts for solving this matter, and the PUK team in the federal government and the parliament continue their work on this issue. At a high party level, we are also continuing our efforts to resolve the salary problem for the Region's employees."
Nerweyi added: "The PUK has always been resolute in defending the rights of salary recipients in the Region. We have filed a lawsuit in Baghdad and are awaiting the court's decision. We have also taken legal measures to Nationalise employees' salaries in accordance with the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, and we will take further steps in the near future."
Recognition of the Yazidi Genocide
Regarding the PUK's stance on the Yazidi genocide and its efforts to have it recognised internationally, Nerweyi said: "The PUK has been actively engaged with this issue from the outset, making considerable efforts through its teams in the government and Parliament to influence international countries and ensure the crimes are classified as genocide.
He added: "The PUK has also been working to discover the fate of the missing and to provide both material and moral compensation to those affected."
Nerweyi further said: "The PUK has played a key role in the reconstruction of Sinjar and in compensating those affected. Recently, the Swiss Parliament recognised the Yazidi genocide, joining other European countries that have taken similar steps, and the PUK played a role in this recognition."
