Kamaran Osman of CPT-Iraqi Kurdistan Receives award from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On December 14, 2024, in a ceremony at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the Netherlands Minister of Foreign Affairs, Caspar Veldkamp presented the Tulip Award to Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT)-Iraqi Kurdistan member Kamaran Osman.
The Dutch Consulate in the Kurdistan Region has announced that they are proud that the CPT of Iraqi Kurdistan has been awarded the Human Rights Tulip Award for 2024.
The Dutch Consulate added, "At a time when defending human rights globally is becoming increasingly difficult, we are pleased to see Kamaran Osman, representing the CPT of Iraqi Kurdistan, receive the Human Rights Tulip Award from Mr. Caspar Veldkamp, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands."
Upon receiving the award, Kamaran Osman said: “This award is a reflection of our collective commitment to human rights, and we are deeply honored to receive it. But let this award not be seen simply as a recognition of what has been done but as a call to action.”
"At this moment, our thoughts are with all those whose rights have been violated and who face daily ethnic, racial, religious, and gender discrimination," he added.
He went on to say, "This award is not only an honour for CPT's efforts in the field of human rights, but also for all the farmers and villagers who have remained in their communities despite the bombings, and who has championed the civil struggle against such attacks and invasions."
Kamaran added, "This award belongs to the journalists and activists who continue their noble work despite facing arrest, torture, unfair trials, and sometimes even assassination."
The Tulip Award is presented annually by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to an organisation that actively defends human rights worldwide.
The award consists of a bronze tulip symbol and includes financial support to help expand the organisation’s efforts in defending human rights.
