Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received on Sunday, December 15, 2024, Mohammed Al-Hassan, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), to discuss critical issues shaping Iraq’s future.

The meeting included an in-depth review of Iraq’s current status and addressed regional developments, with a particular focus on Syria.

Discussions centered on strategies to safeguard Syria’s unity, stability and human rights during its transitional period, underlining the shared commitment to regional peace.

President Rashid emphasized UNAMI’s crucial role in fostering Iraq’s stability and supporting its path toward sustainable development amid ongoing challenges.

The President also highlighted the importance of the vision of the Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani. He noted that the Grand Ayatollah’s guidance, particularly during his dialogue with the UNAMI Chief, reflects His Eminence’s dedication to ensuring Iraq’s stability and shielding the nation from regional conflicts.

Al-Hassan reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to preserving Iraq’s security and development gains while striving for even greater progress. He underscored the need for continued cooperation to build on these achievements and advance Iraq’s aspirations for growth and prosperity.
