PUK Spokesperson Welcomes a UNAMI Delegation.
Today, Wednesday, 4th December 2024, Saadi Ahmed Pire, Spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed a delegation from UNAMI, led by Francesc Revuelto-Lanao, the Head of the UNAMI Office in the Kurdistan Region, along with Munyaradzi Motsi, UNAMI's Political Affairs Officer, and Aziz Barzinji, the UNAMI Political Advisor for the Region.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the political, economic, and military situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region more broadly, with a particular focus on the national census in Iraq. This process is expected to have a direct impact on the programme's status and on both immediate and long-term human development plans, while also contributing to the delivery of service projects across all sectors.
The results of the sixth term elections of the Kurdistan Parliament and the future of the political process in the Kurdistan Region were also addressed.
For his part, Mr. Lanao conveyed his congratulations to the people of Iraq on the completion of the population census, expressing his hope that this step would serve as a catalyst for development and progress in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in terms of the economy and services. He also reiterated that "UNAMI is committed to supporting stability and peace in both the Region and Iraq."
