The 17th session of the United Nations Forum on Minority Issues is currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland, with various activities and panels on Friday, November 29, 2024. Soran Ahmed Ali, a participant in the forum, along with representatives of minorities and communities, are outlining the primary issues, threats, and challenges that impede minority groups from exercising their language, culture, education, and public rights.
Soran Ahmed told PUKMEDIA from Geneva: "Representatives of minorities and communities are presenting the primary issues, threats, and challenges that impede minority groups from exercising their language, culture, education, and public rights."
"Subsequently, the forum's recommendations will be transformed into a project and conveyed to their respective countries to address issues and eliminate impediments," he stated.
Several representatives from various organisations and activists across all four parts of Kurdistan, including members of the PUK, are engaged in discussing the issues and challenges encountered by Kurds in their countries.
"These forums are crucial for fostering relations, particularly in collaborating on Kurdistani matters and showcasing them in these international opportunities," he stated.
"Kurdish participants, both from the Kurdistan Region and overseas, concur that national issues and educational standards are not as good as they should be," Ahmed added.
The forum began on November 28, attracting around 500 participants from various organisations, particularly NGOs and activists, including Kurds from all parts.
Speaking about the forum's agenda, Hussein Sharazuri previously told PUKMEDIA: "The forum addresses the issues and demands of minorities and various nationalities across the globe, and the PUK was invited as a prominent Kurdish force."
The forum will conclude on Friday, and according to the PUK comrades involved, they will engage in fostering connections with participants and organisations during the meetings and activities.
