The sixth edition of the Sulaymaniyah International Book Fair opens today, Thursday, 28th November 2024, with the participation of 200 institutions, publishing houses, and libraries. The event, which will run until 8th December, is expected to showcase tens of thousands of book titles over its 11-day duration.
Ariwan Siwaily, Director of the Department of Media, Printing, and Publishing in Sulaymaniyah, told PUKMEDIA that the fair will feature a wide range of local and international participants, including publishing houses, centres, and cultural institutions. "Books from all genres will be on display, with contributions from 200 institutions from both within the Kurdistan Region and abroad," he said.
A special section of the fair will be dedicated to the Media and Awareness Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). This area will feature books, publications, and archives related to the new revolution, with more than 1,000 titles, including works from the Media Board, the Awareness Board, the Studies Centre, the Legal Affairs Centre, and the President Jalal Talabani Foundation. These will showcase the PUK’s history, as well as the memories and works of activists and political figures involved in the revolution.
In addition to the displays, the fair will host a series of media discussions and forums, providing a platform for dialogue and exchange. Siwaily expressed his expectation that the fair will attract large numbers of visitors and that book sales will exceed those of previous years.
