Census Iraq Kurdistan Region

The general population census continues in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for the third consecutive day, with preliminary estimates suggesting that Iraq's population exceeds 45 million.

The Iraqi News Agency reported completion rates for the census across all governorates in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, with Wasit Governorate achieving the highest completion rate at 98.68%.

Government sources also highlighted that, based on early estimates from the census, Iraq's population is expected to surpass 45 million.

Meanwhile, economic expert Nabil al-Marsoumi disclosed the financial and economic cost of the census in a Facebook post on Friday. He stated that the total cost amounted to 951 billion dinars, including 459 billion dinars in direct financial expenditure and 492 billion dinars resulting from the suspension of official work.

Al-Marsoumi further explained that the economic impact extends beyond these figures, as public and private economic activities have been disrupted. This has particularly affected vulnerable groups who rely on daily earnings for their livelihoods and lack savings to sustain themselves during the curfew.

Planning Spokesman: Final Stage of Census to Commence

The Spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi, has announced that the ministry will release the preliminary results of the general population census next week.

In a press statement, Al-Hindawi outlined the three stages of the census process. The first stage, numbering and enumeration, began on 1 September and concluded on 30 October.

The second stage involved counting the population and recording their basic data, which was conducted during the curfew on Wednesday and Thursday.

The third and final stage, according to al-Hindawi, will commence after the conclusion of the second stage and continue until 10 December. This phase will focus on gathering detailed data about the population, including their social and economic characteristics.

Al-Hindawi further stated that the preliminary results will be announced after data collection and verification are complete. The announcement, expected on either Sunday or Monday, will take place at an official press conference. It will include the overall population of Iraq, the population of each governorate, as well as demographic details such as the number of males and females and age group distributions.
