Third Day of Iraq's Census: Progress & Completion Rates

On Friday, the general population census teams resumed their work for the third consecutive day across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, following an extension of the working period.
The census operation began on Wednesday morning and will continue until midnight, with enumerators visiting homes to complete and verify data.
The Supreme Commission for the General Population Census in Iraq has decided to extend working hours in governorates where the process remains incomplete, extending operations until Friday evening, 22 November 2024.
In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Supreme Commission called on citizens who have not yet been visited by census teams to remain in their homes.
Additionally, the Commission announced the lifting of the curfew within governorates' administrative boundaries, while maintaining restrictions on vehicle and citizen movement between governorates until midnight tomorrow.
Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani has instructed census teams to complete the population and housing census across Iraq today, Friday.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s media office urged citizens to fully cooperate with the teams and provide accurate information, emphasising that this significant developmental initiative is vital for the progress of all service and economic sectors, as well as broader development efforts.
Completion Rates of Iraq's Population Census by Governorate
The Iraqi News Agency has released the completion percentages for the population census across Iraq. The recorded figures for each governorate are as follows:
- Baghdad: 80.48%
- Nineveh: 98.60%
- Erbil: 96.31%
- Sulaymaniyah: 94.76%
- Basra: 89.85%
- Babylon: 94.78%
- Diyala: 98.10%
- Dhi Qar: 86.84%
- Najaf: 92.27%
- Kirkuk: 97.74%
- Anbar: 95.99%
- alahuddin: 98.16%
- Karbala: 95.81%
- Wasit: 98.68%
- Diwaniyah: 95.33%
- Duhok: 95.25%
- Maysan: 91.23%
- Muthanna: 94.73%
These figures indicate substantial progress in the census process across most regions.
